TSU6 – WATER BASE URETHANE COATING
FOR CORROSION PROTECTION

Data Sheet

Taurus TUS6 is an odorless, cross-linked, waterborne aliphatic urethane coating that contains no volatile solvents, isocyanates, or other hazardous materials. It is recommended for both interior and exterior topcoat applications, including metallic structures, storage tanks, and high-traffic areas such as sports floors or busy retail environments. It cures at room temperature and exhibits rapid hardness development and early water resistance. It offers a unique balance of toughness, aesthetics, and abrasion resistance. The Taurus TUS6 topcoat is available in clear gloss and several colors. It is extremely weatherable and abrasion-resistant, retaining its appearance for long periods in various
environments. It can be used over Rust Primer, Taurus epoxies, or properly prepared surfaces in areas exposed to UV. The aliphatic nature of this product offers excellent non-yellowing properties.

Application Instructions

NOTE: Please refer to the Detailed Application and Safety Instructions. It is mandatory to complete the specific training for Taurus TUS6 before application.

Surface Preparation

New concrete must be cured for at least 28 days before applying Taurus TUS6. The substrate must be above 12°C (54°F) and free of dirt, waxes, previously applied coatings, oil, grease, laitance, and any foreign matter that may interfere with the primer’s adhesion to the prepared substrate. Cracks and surface defects must be repaired prior to primer application.
Concrete surfaces to be coated should be mechanically cleaned to ensure a suitable surface for the primer. If acid etching is chosen for concrete surface preparation, the etched surface must be thoroughly rinsed and dried for 24 hours before applying the primer. Taurus TUS6 adheres strongly to all types of epoxy coatings. The epoxy floor intended for Taurus TUS6 must be clean, dry, and free of contaminants. Sanding with 60-80 grit sandpaper is recommended. On metal substrates, proper surface preparation is essential for the long-term performance of this product. Specific surface preparation requirements depend on the severity of the application, expected lifespan, and initial condition of the substrate. Rust Primer is recommended when abrasive blasting is not feasible. Optimal preparation will result in a surface completely free of contaminants and rough, with an angular profile between 75-125 μm (3-5 mil). This is typically achieved through initial cleaning and degreasing, followed by abrasive blasting to achieve a Near-White Metal (SSPC-SP10) or White Metal cleanliness, with any residual abrasive removed from the surface to be coated.

Application
Taurus TUS6 can be applied with a roller, sprayer, or brush. The spray method generally provides the best results in terms of film consistency and appearance. For spraying, Taurus TUS6 can be diluted with water (up to 5% by volume) to achieve a viscosity of 22 seconds (Zahn #2 cup). Be sure to apply an even coat across the floor and remove any excess before it dries.
Air Spraying: A nozzle size of 1.8-2.0 mm and atomizing air pressure of 2.8-3.2 bar is suggested.
Airless Spraying: The nozzle orifice should be between 0.011 and 0.015″, with an atomization pressure of 3300 psi.
Roller Application: Contractors can use various techniques to apply a clear coat that offers a smooth, defect-free finish. Ideally, a 9 mm lintfree roller should be used to apply Taurus TUS6. For larger projects, an 18″ commercial roller is recommended.
Apply the coating with minimal pressure, consistently and evenly, ensuring a single-pass application for a uniform layer. Do not let the fresh coating edge dry. If the coating begins to transition from a milky white appearance to transparent, it is curing.
Avoid re-rolling at this stage, as it may create overlap marks, cloudiness, and other variations in the appearance of the cured coating. Also, avoid excessive application and build-up. Two to three coats are recommended, with a coverage rate of 300-500 square feet/U.S. gallon, depending on the porosity of the surface. Allow 4 hours of drying time between coats or 12-16 hours before allowing traffic. Apply the coating over a properly prepared surface.
Curing: The floor will be suitable for normal foot traffic after drying overnight, but may still be susceptible to furniture marks or heavy traffic until fully cured. Allow at least 3 days at 23°C (74°F) for full cure before covering the coating.
